Expensive gears for better Photography ..... Really ?????

This blog are those enthusiast who wish to take great photo's but don't have enough budget to go for high-end equipment ....

In my last blog (infect the first one ... ) i did mention about the those photographers who cries and often criticise other people work by claiming that they would have take better image if the would have DSLR with bla bla ... Yada Yada Yada ...... Well in terms of % ..... i agree 20% .... it is correct .... but still 80% is not correct ..... How ??? Lets move forward how :) .

You still can take better photos using from any device which can capture light and have ability to reproduce it over paper of digitally in term of 1's and 0's. So main question is ... Do we really need expensive gear ????

Allow me to share with you all one incident happened with me which made me believe that you really don't need expensive camera equipment to take better images. As i am Nikonian from day first, when Nikon D800 announced back in 2012 which is full frame camera with ultra, mega hyper 36 MP resolution which mean if i take portrait of your face using this camera, it can literally able to capture every single hair over your face in so much detail that probably even you have not seen it. Cut story short, i bought the camera and start enjoy it. After few month due to personal reason, i sold my Nikon D800 and went down to Nikon D3200 which was also announce in 2012 with very high 24MP resolution which no one was expecting in entry level DSLR. I had no other choice to stuck with D3200. Nikon D800 was the second best camera at per DXOMark (www.dxomark.com) bench marked with the score of 95 followed by Nikon D800E (sibling of D800 without Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) ) and the king as per DXOMark with the score of 96.

D3200 was way behind in compared to D800/D800E when it comes to ISO performance, mega pixel, dynamic range, faster shutter speed etc etc. But the only thing that i still have at that time was my passion towards Photography. I planned one photo shoot and requested one of my office friend to do modelling for me which he accepted after a long argument. I requested him to buy one "Hammer", "Helmet" & gloves which fortunately he did as he was all pumped up due to excitement of Photograpny. I provided him the safety jacket. Ones every thing was arranged, we went off-road some where in the middle of the new Fujairah highway. Sun was fast setting and we were running out of time. Cut story shot, i used 2 light setup using my simple flash, both in soft box over stand and i fired those 2 flashes using radio triggers. Though the lens i choose to shoot that shot is the best (Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 ) but if you look at the shot setting (below) you have to agree with me on this that you can use any lens and can take such shot (e.g. 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6) .... Of course you need extra radio trigger and flash about which we will talk later over next upcoming blogs as Nikon D3200 built-in flash cannot work as the commander flash to fire remote flashes.

Here are the shot settings,

ISO: 400, f/18, 1/200, 24mm

So cut story short, as you can see .... i used entry level DSLR D3200 and able to secure a worth sharing shot with the help of flash light and cheap radio trigger.

Honestly speaking, i saw people stunning images using mobile phone camera (specially iPhone) and also with Point-and-Shoot camera and results were just awesome. Wasee ul Hasan is one of very passionate photographer who don't ever own a DSLR yet. He owns Point-and-Shoot camera which can take some really stunning macro shots. Take a look one of his sample image that he took using simple camera

In the end, i like summarise my message like that ...... Don't stop your self due to unavailability of the equipment. If you cannot buy one ... then make one of your own.

How it is possible??? .... well for that you have to wait for the Next Blog :)

Happy Learning Guys !

    1. Dear Adil,

I can assure you that with the settings that i put above, you can have the same image even with kit lenses .... the lens that i had makes difference when you open up the aperture to from f/3.5 or lower number onwards.
